Presenting myself,
My
name is John van de Rijdt and I'm born on the 23rd of April
1955 in Tilburg. I currently live in Dongen which is close
to my home town Tilburg.
I really enjoy working with my creative side and
unsuprisingly my real passion in life is design. Throughout
my life I have designed objects – both for personal and
commercial reasons.
I started drawing when I was a child. My parents told me
that I have always been very busy with just a piece of
paper and some pencils or paint. Aged 14 I already made my
first real portrait drawing. My passion for design was the
primary reason for getting a degree in architecture. In
school for the first time I was confronted with the
diversity of forms, colours, lines, areas and light.
At a later age I took a course in watercolour painting as
well as carving both led by Martien de Visser - a
regionally well-known and respected artist. The course
started in 1992 and I followed it until 2006. One thing
that I learned from Martien was to not be afraid of your
own creativity: the process to create and let arise.
Martien taught me how to approach and look at objects
thereby trying to release the visible reality. Moreover I
will always remember the 'secret' of art – as an artist you
are not searching but finding. Following the principles of
this secret, each painting or sculpture is a challenge,
which you do not really know where it will end. It is a
search to my own possibilities. At one moment in time I
wanted to go to the art academy. However I decided against
it because I considered it to be an advantage to not have
been taught to work in accordance to the 'standards' of art
and design. All the paintings and sculptures that I created
are my own discoveries. And this is exactly what gives me
the satisfaction as well as the motivation to continue with
my passion
